The Ocean and Humans are inextricably interconnected
Oxygen
The ocean's phytoplankton gives us oxygen that helps us to breathe. Phytoplankton are microscopic plants that grow in the ocean, and supply half of the world’s oxygen. The other half is produced on land by trees and other plant life. The oxygen is released during a process called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a plant's way of converting light energy into chemical energy to supply itself with food.
